Important Issues
In this section we present thoughts, reflections, and proclamations
on important issues facing the Lutheran Church today.
Sexuality Study
The Task Force for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)
Studies on Sexuality released the "Draft Social Statement on
Human Sexuality" March 13th for study and response across the
4.8 million-member ELCA. This Social Statement will be discussed
at the next ELCA churchwide assembly on August 17th through 23rd,
2009, in Minneapolis.
Responses to the draft social statement are due to the task force
Nov. 1, 2008. Our synod, Pacifica, hosted hearings to discuss the
draft social statement and provide the requested responses. All
responses from this meeting will be brought back to the task force.
Based upon all of the responses from the various synods, the task
force will revise and prepare a proposed social statement. The proposed
social statement will then be given to the ELCA Church Council for
its consideration and with a request to place the document on the
agenda of the 2009 ELCA Churchwide Assembly for action.
Again, we ask you, members of Red Hill, to download this statement,
read it, reflect on it, pray that God will lead us at Red Hill to
thoughtfully and lovingly engage these issues. The "Draft Social
Statement on Human Sexuality" of the ELCA is available at:

on the ELCA's Web site.
From the 2007 Church Wide Assembly
During the summer of 2007the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America
held its bi-annual Church Wide Assembly in Chicago, Ill. One of
the topics discussed was in relation to the ordination practices
of the ELCA. It is an important topic and will be so for years.
Here is what happened and some reflections.
